Strengthening engineering capability at Omega Subsea
Omega Subsea has established a dedicated Engineering Department to further strengthen project delivery and enhance support to offshore operations. The initiative builds on existing operational experience and is designed to complement clients with faster, more integrated engineering support.
“This is a natural progression of the expertise that already exists within the organization,” says Helle Gjersum, Engineering Manager in Omega Subsea. “We have long experience with supplying engineering support to offshore operations.
For several years, Omega Subsea has delivered experienced Field Engineers and offshore engineering services to clients across oil and gas and renewables. Company personnel have been directly involved in offshore operations, providing practical, hands-on engineering expertise during offshore campaigns and working alongside clients’ engineering teams.
As part of its continued development, this competence has now been formalized into a structured Engineering Department.
“We are very pleased to have Helle leading this development,” says Morten Haugen, Chief Operations Officer (COO) at Omega Subsea. “She is professionally strong, highly competent and brings valuable operational insight. With her background and structured approach, we are building our internal capability in a way that supports our clients’ engineering organizations and ongoing projects.”

Building on experience and expanding support
The Engineering Department has two main objectives. It will maintain and further develop the high standard of Field Engineers and offshore support services, while also expanding the company’s ability to deliver focused engineering scopes that integrate closely with project execution.
“In many offshore campaigns, engineering questions arise during execution,” Gjersum explains. “By developing our internal engineering capability, we can respond more quickly and increase our overall engineering deliverables in line with client requirements. Our role is to support the project and contribute where needed, working alongside our clients.”
Typical deliveries include engineering support related to planning and execution of offshore operations, vessel-specific interfaces, operational risk and feasibility evaluations, and technical clarifications. The emphasis remains on practical, operations-driven engineering aligned with offshore execution.
“We want to build a lean and technically strong department,” Gjersum says. “We are not establishing a standalone engineering house or positioning ourselves as a new competitor in the engineering market. The purpose is to enhance delivery to our own project, provide additional capacity when required, and collaborate closely with clients and established engineering partners.”
Engineering resources will support both tender processes and active projects. Close cooperation with project management ensures continuity from early-phase assessments through detailed engineering and offshore follow-up. This provides improved efficiency, clearer technical interfaces and stronger quality assurance throughout the project lifecycle.
Collaboration and continued development
Collaboration remains central to the engineering model.
“Flexibility is essential,” Gjersum states. “Some scopes are handled internally, while others are delivered in cooperation with trusted partners. The priority is always to assemble the right team for the specific assignment and create value together.”
Omega Subsea already has personnel with experience across all phases of offshore and renewable engineering scopes, from early evaluations to detailed engineering and offshore execution support. As part of the department’s development, technical competence is being further reinforced. The company will soon strengthen the team with experienced Structural and Mechanical Leads who will contribute to shaping and developing the engineering department going forward.
The establishment of the Engineering Department marks an important step in Omega Subsea’s development. By building on its operational foundation while maintaining a collaborative approach, the company enhances its ability to deliver practical, solution-oriented engineering rooted in real offshore experience.
